The PRVI Infrastructure Cluster wants to promote the continued development of a diversified Economy and a growing High Tech Sector. Competitiveness with other States is KEY if we want to maintain high wages and opportunities for our citizens so that they don’t emigrate to the States for better opportunities. Tax Incentives have been very successful until now for Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands, but we cannot continue to rely exclusively on Low Taxes specialty when they are being challenged worldwide. That is why Innovation and a Circular Economy is more important than ever. Maximizing the use of Federal Reconstruction Funding is of utmost importance until we can fully develop our Tech Industry thru the development of new Government’s Research and Development (“R & D”) Tax Credits.
Knowing how to compete with other States is important also. There are 15-16 Aviationa dn Aerospace States, many of which are located in the South and Western Parts of the United States with limit to Water. Clean Water is more important than ever and can be one of Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands’s competitive economic advantages. At present there is no Master Plan to include recycling water, rather than cleaning the same and dumping it into the ocean. Citizens can leave for small period of time without electricity but they cannot leave without Clean, Potable Water.
Furthermore, to keep us with the latest industry trends we need to educate our workers and businesses in Cybersecurity; otherwise they won’t have access to Federal Contracts which require data protection for companies large and small.
Can you imagine what transformational power we could accomplish if we attract most of H1-B Visa entrants into the United States? These technocrats could come to Puerto
Rico and the US Virgin Islands, work for our Universities (while they build their businesses), educate and inspire our future generations, create hundreds of patents and help us create high paying jobs.
